Leadership and Self-Deception: Getting Out of the Box, by The Arbinger Institute

Leadership & Self Deception is a modern-day parable about a senior business executive who is struggling both personally and professionally but is unable to see how his behavior is contributing to either problem.  He is living in the area of self deception, seeing people as objects to be used and not as people to be valued.  With a little help from his leadership in this fictitious organization, he comes to realize that when we see people as objects we actually end up encouraging the very behavior we are trying to correct.  It is only as we begin to treat people as people that we invite cooperation, productivity and commitment because those on our team know that we want what’s best for them.

Leadership & Self Deception’s parabolic style is deceptively simple, and yet if we would choose to implement the principles contained we would find that the teams we are leading (personally & professionally) would become out-of-the box organizations that are focused on relationships and results.
